timber log grades

Evaluating timber is a multi-step process.

One of the final steps is establishing which type of log your tree will yield. This tree value calculator is a helpful way for us to determine how your lumber will stack up based on its grade.

Veneer

A veneer is a thin sheet or slice of wood that contains the desirable and sleek wooden panel look sought by many furniture makers and wooden door manufacturers.

Only the highest quality hardwood can produce veneer as they contain minimal defects.

Sawlog

Sawlogs produce the traditional lumber you’ll need for building materials, furniture or flooring projects.

Relatively defect-free, sawlogs aren’t quite large enough or of a higher grain for the veneer.

Blocking

Lower-grade lumber has many uses.

We primarily see this type of lumber as dimensional blocks on hardware store shelves or during construction projects.
